Rotary Literacy Initiative

Serving our children through empowering literacy.

Our Rotary Club's commitment to serve our community is rooting in helping empower the children of our community. One way Rotary works to invest in our children is through elevating a focus on literacy with local students.  Each year Monticello Rotary Club works with our two local schools districts offer programs centered on reading.

Each year our members are invited to visit fourth grade classes, and read classroom book to them. This program excited the students about reading through the presentation by a community leaders/ business professional whom the student admire and are excited to meet.

Each Fall Monticello Rotary Club, purchases and deliverers printed dictionaries to the fourth grade classes. The dictionaries are personally given to each student, and the students get to keep the copy for their home. As technology dominates the world our this young generations, the excitement they enjoy by getting to own a book we hope inspires them to continue that excitement for learning and reading.
THE FOUR-WAY TEST

The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings:

Of the things we think, say or do
  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
